Barker Company Employees Lose 1,590 Pounds
Keosauqua, Iowa – In December, 2006, Barker Company issued a challenge to their employees to lose 10% of their weight in 16 weeks. 118 of Barker’s 600 employees from both the Keosauqua and Centerville plants responded. 7 teams of 13 to 28 members were formed. Monetary prizes were given every four weeks for every pound each team lost.
During the “Barker Battle of the Bulge”, 34 people lost 10% or more of their body weight and earned Barker wellness jackets. Lunchboxes were earned by the 31 participants who lost at least 5%. All participants earned a wellness T shirt.
A total of 1,590 pounds were lost, an average of 13.5 pounds per person. Scott Bartholomew was the biggest loser, followed by Ron Sprouse, Pam Davison, Roger Claman and Lisa Carter. Each earned $100 for their efforts.
A maintenance challenge has been issued to all participants with a final weigh-in on July 25. Those who have maintained their weight loss within 5 pounds will earn a prize. Those who lose additional weight will also be recognized.
